Material & Finish Options

Natural Steel — Unpainted / DIY Finish: Supplied unpainted, ready for you to finish with suitable metal paint or leave to rust naturally. This is the option to choose for our signature rustic, corten-style appearance. “Corten-style” describes the look, not a confirmed steel grade. The rusty colour develops with exposure and may not be present when your artwork arrives. Each piece weathers differently.

Dulux COLORBOND® Colour (Your Choice): Choose this option for us to paint your lotus and dots in your requested Dulux colour from the COLORBOND colour range. Add the exact colour name in your order notes or send us a message after purchasing. This refers to a paint colour choice, not COLORBOND sheet steel.

DIY Paint or Let It Rust

• DIY painting: use a metal-compatible paint system suitable for outdoor steel. Prepare the surface and apply primer and topcoat as directed by the paint manufacturer.
• Natural rusting: leave unpainted steel to age outdoors for an evolving weathered patina.
• Pro Tip: a vinegar, water and salt solution can speed up surface rusting. Test a small area first, wear gloves and eye protection, protect surrounding surfaces and avoid breathing spray mist. Results vary; do not use on the painted option.

Rust care: rust can transfer to hands or surfaces, and rain runoff can stain walls, paving and timber. Choose your mounting position carefully. Unpainted steel continues to corrode over time; the rustic appearance does not make it rust-proof.

Mounting Ideas — Wall, Fence & Outdoor Display

Plan the complete layout first. Mark a vertical centreline and arrange the lotus and each dot before fixing them. Choose fixings for the steel finish, wall material, artwork weight and outdoor exposure.

• Heavy-duty double-sided tape: exterior-grade tape such as 3M VHB may suit clean, dry, smooth surfaces when rated for the actual load. The steel contact area must be sound and free of loose rust, dust and grease; do not bond tape to flaky rust. Follow the tape manufacturer's preparation, pressure and curing instructions.
• Glue / construction adhesive: choose an exterior-grade adhesive specifically compatible with steel and your wall surface. Apply to suitable contact points on the back, support the pieces while curing and follow the product instructions. Adhesive can damage painted surfaces when removed.
• Secure mechanical mounting: for large pieces, rough masonry, exposed locations or positions above people, use suitable brackets or fixings installed by a competent installer. Contact us before ordering if you need mounting advice; holes or hardware are not promised as included.
• Separate dots: mount each dot individually using a suitably rated adhesive or tape on a prepared surface. Keep spacing even and allow the required cure time before exposure.

Do not rely on tape alone where the surface, weather exposure or load is unsuitable. Check attachments periodically, particularly as unpainted steel weathers.
